VOLLMER of America Celebrates 50 Years of Precision, Innovation, and People 2026-09-30

to overview

Founded in 1976 as the first international subsidiary of the VOLLMER Group, VOLLMER of America represented the beginning of the company's global expansion beyond its headquarters in Biberach, Germany. The VOLLMER Group itself traces its roots back to 1909, when founder Heinrich Vollmer built his first saw-setting and filing machines. Today, the family-owned company has grown into a global technology leader with subsidiaries around the world while remaining committed to the values that have defined it for more than a century.

The decision to establish VOLLMER's first overseas subsidiary in the Pittsburgh region reflected the area's strong manufacturing heritage, central location within key industrial markets, and proximity to many of the woodworking and metalworking customers that helped shape the company's growth in North America.

Throughout its history, VOLLMER of America has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of its customers. One of the most significant milestones came in 2020, when the company relocated from its longtime facility in Carnegie, Pennsylvania, to its current state-of-the-art facility near Pittsburgh International Airport. The new building dramatically expanded VOLLMER's capabilities, including a warehouse that is more than three times larger than its predecessor, a modern showroom for machine demonstrations and customer training, and ample space to support future growth.

While the company has experienced tremendous growth and technological advancement over the past 50 years, one thing has remained constant: its commitment to people.
As former member of the Supervisory Board and daughter of the company’s founder Sieglinde Vollmer often emphasized, “What I consider to be important is people, whether they are the porter or the managing director.” That philosophy continues to guide VOLLMER today and remains deeply embedded in the company's culture.

"Machines, technology, and facilities are important, but they are only possible because of the dedicated people behind them," said Peter Allen, President of VOLLMER of America. "Our employees have been the foundation of our success for the past 50 years. Their expertise, commitment, and passion for serving our customers have built the reputation that VOLLMER enjoys today."

To celebrate this milestone and recognize the employees who have made it possible, VOLLMER of America hosted a Family Day celebration at its Pittsburgh headquarters on July 18. Employees and their families enjoyed a day filled with activities for all ages, including an inflatable obstacle course, interactive sports games, team-building activities, friendly competitions, food, and entertainment.

The anniversary celebration also provides an opportunity to recognize the many customers and partners who have contributed to VOLLMER's success over the decades. As part of the occasion, the company has shared a limited-edition anniversary gift with a select group of long-standing customers whose support has played a particularly meaningful role in VOLLMER of America's history. The initiative represents one of several ways the company is expressing its appreciation to the customers, partners, and employees who have helped shape the organization over the past five decades.

The celebration comes during an exciting period for VOLLMER and the industries it serves. Throughout the anniversary year, the company is connecting with customers at major industry events including IWF in Atlanta and IMTS in Chicago, while hosting special customer appreciation events such as Precision Partners Night during IWF and an exclusive customer gathering aboard a yacht on Lake Michigan during IMTS. Looking ahead to 2027, VOLLMER is also proud to help shape the future of the grinding industry
as a founding board member of GrindingHub Americas, the premier new trade show dedicated to grinding technology in North America.

As VOLLMER of America celebrates 50 years in North America, the company remains focused on strengthening customer partnerships, advancing manufacturing technology, and investing in the people who will drive the next generation of innovation.
