With V@dison, VOLLMER is opening the door to Industry 4.0 2019-02-19to overview
The Swabian sharpening specialist, VOLLMER, is driving their digital strategy forwards with the V@dison initiative. At the heart of this is the digital networking of people with grinding and eroding machines within production and further afield.Whether we are talking about ensuring the maximum level of transparency in the process in order to conduct predictive maintenance in machines or providing "intelligent" digital services which make working life easier. With V@dison, VOLLMER is plunging into the world of Industry 4.0 and, in future, will offer concepts in four key areas: Using the topics of V@ screen, V@ check, V@ boost and V@ guide, VOLLMER is covering the entire value-added chain within the digital IoT world (Internet of Things).
VOLLMER is a leading provider of sharpening technologies and services for the processing of circular saws, metal-cutting band saws or rotary tools – regardless of whether these are made of carbide or are PCD. Using the V@dison initiative, VOLLMER is integrating its grinding and eroding machines into IoT-based digitalisation in order to allow tool manufacturers to gradually introduce themselves to the topic of Industry 4.0 in a practical way. The "dison" in V@dison stands for "digital solutions". When read together with the @, this reminds us of the US inventor Thomas Alva Edison, whose achievement lay in making a pioneering discovery – electrical energy – usable for many users and changed life forever. This also symbolises the drive that is behind VOLLMER's new product area. In the future, V@dison will offer specific solutions and tools in four key areas. These include the topics

V@ screen: Making data visible and visualising processes
The focus of V@ screen is the IoT-based recording and visualisation of relevant machine data on various end devices. This provides information about the current utilisation of sharpening machines, and provides important parameters in order to determine the condition of the machines or even to detect manufacturing defects at an early stage. Thanks to the rapid availability and visibility of the information, the user is able to keep an eye on everything at all times. This high level of transparency means that it is easier to use machines more efficiently when manufacturing tools.
V@ check: Gaining experience and improving tools
Thanks to various software solutions, manufacturing processes can be simulated and optimised – without any material losses. With the V@ check area, VOLLMER supports the evaluation of machine data and the analysis of manufacturing procedures. This is used, for example, to detect correlations from material use, tool quality and production time. In such an Industry 4.0 environment, tool manufacturers can reduce downtimes, improve their design and manufacturing processes, and set the course for future tool developments.
V@ boost: Taking full advantage of potential and expanding functions
Thanks to V@ boost, VOLLMER is providing special, additional software tools that can be used to optimise the machine with regard to workpieces and to expand the known range of functions. Different sales or rental models match the requirements of different customers.
V@ guide: Identifying faults before they occur
The digitalisation strategy from VOLLMER is rounded off by a service package that supports predictive maintenance. Digital service modules as well as automated or virtual communication and order processes allow for smart production, which can be used to prevent quality problems as well as travel times and costs.
