Thesis: Process optimisation for laser machining PCD

Department: Development, process engineering area

Duration: To be agreed (around six months)

Time frame: Winter semester 2018/2019

 

Aim of the project: To optimise efficiency and quality of cutting and removal of polycrystalline diamond (PCD) using laser beams

These exciting tasks are waiting for you:

  • Conducting basic investigations into machining PCD using lasers
  • Quantifying the effect of process variables using design of experiments (DOE)
  • Optimising the machining strategy

Let's see if you're the perfect fit for us!

  • You are studying Mechanical Engineering or a similar subject
  • You have some basic knowledge of optics and statistics and of how to use data processing software (e.g. MATLAB, Excel)
  • You have a structured way of working with a focus on the goals at hand
  • You are a good team player who is committed, willing to learn and happy to work hard
