International athletics Meeting "World class in Biberach"
Following up the events of 2007 and 2008, the athletics championships "World class in Biberach" took place for the third time at the Biberach stadium on 24th and 25th June. Not only the shift from weekend to weekdays was new, the international athletics meeting was also for the first time divided into two days. The first competition at the Biberach stadium was the male and female shot-put, where Peking gold medal winner Tomasz Majewski from Poland took part.
Many German top athletes, as for example long jumper Nils Winter, javelin athletes Steffi Nerius and Christina Obergföll, pole jumpers Danny Ecker and Raphael Holzdeppe, middle distance sprinter Robin Schembera, shot-putters Denise Hinrichs, Petra Lammert and Nadine Kleinert, among others, participated at the Biberach sports event. Many of them aimed to obtain a ticket for the world championships Berlin due to be held in August.
In spite of poor weather conditions, about 300 visitors came on Tuesday evening in order to cheer on the shot-putters. The organizers tried hard to protect the shot-put circle against the strong rainfall. A spontaneous party was celebrated later on in the VOLLMER tent situated on the sponsors' mile. Michael Antony and his band held an additional concert, first on stage and subsequently in the VOLLMER tent.
On Wednesday evening, approximately 5.000 sports fans came to the Biberach stadium in order to shout encouragement to the athletes and to see record performances.
We as sponsor would like to take the opportunity to thank all visitors very much for their attendance and good spirits, and are looking forward to next year's oncoming event: "World class in Biberach".
